Popcorn On Couch ranks The Hunger Games series

Ranking The Hunger Games movies from least favourite to favourite.

Countdowns Movies Sequels

I have finally finished watching the Hunger game series; to be honest I am quite sad that it’s over. I thought the series was good, it was well-casted and each person suited their role well. The on-screen chemistry between Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson was superb, although at times I felt the attraction between Katniss and Peeta wasn’t believable, they were just pretending to be love and then suddenly they are actually in love even though Katniss still loves Gale. The acting was excellent, getting better in each movie.
I enjoyed all the movies, some were better than others so I have put together a list ranking my least favourite hunger game movie to the one I enjoyed the most.

The hunger games mockingjay part 1

4) The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Before I watched this movie, many people told me that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 1 was boring therefore I didn’t have high expectations for this movie. Despite what I was told, I liked it and didn’t find it boring but I felt it was unnecessary and was purposely dragged to fill 2 hours. I understand why most people found it boring as there wasn’t anything exciting going on, majority of the movie was just propaganda making, visiting ruined areas, Katniss crying over Peeta and preparing for the war that would occur in the next movie. This movie didn’t really add much to the series, the only shocking or really entertaining part was the ending when Peeta is rescued from the capitol. However you could have skipped this movie and just watched part 2 without missing much and been able to catch on quickly.

This movie could have easily been packed into an hour or even less. Therefore this was my least favourite movie in The Hunger Games franchise.

The hunger games 2012

3) The hunger games

This is where it all began, The Hunger Games 2012. I enjoyed the first movie of the franchise as the actual hunger game was in it, which is always fun to watch. (That may sound bad as the game forces young kids to kill each other, but truthfully this movie was entertaining) In this movie we get the first look of the capitol and how horribly they treat the districts, forcing the kids to kill each other in an arena for their own pleasure. We see the beginning of the pretended relationship between Peeta and Katniss which eventually blossoms into something more throughout the series. The original movie probably was the weakest visually but had more of a realistic tone. This movie had to be good to compel you to watch the rest of the series, which it accomplished but I felt it wasn’t as strong as Catching fire and Mockingjay part 2.

The hunger games: mockingjay part 2

2) The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2 didn’t disappoint, this movie was a good way to finish the popular franchise. It was dramatic, emotional, surprising, shocking and that’s why I really liked Mockingjay part 2 because of how it made me feel. Seeing the deaths of many lovable characters was shocking to watch and hit me hard as it was unexpected. The acting was brilliant especially from Jennifer Lawrence, such a natural actress. The movie was slow for the first 40 minutes but it improved when Katniss and her unit went on their mission to assassinate President Snow, watching them get past the obstacles was fun. Seeing Coin’s true colours appear was a shock, makes you think, is President Snow really as bad as we thought. The ending was sweet too, may not have satisfied some people but it was a nice ending.

The hunger games: catching fire

1) The Hunger Games: Catching fire

The hunger games: Catching fire is my favourite from the whole series; it introduced important intriguing characters, Finnick Odair and Plutarch Heavensbee. We received a better understanding of most of the character’s personalities who were participating in the game. Visually this movie was stunning, better than the first, probably due to the higher budget and new director. The tone is duller than the first movie and the arena was more complex with the addition of new obstacles like poison fog and jabber jays making the actual game engaging and more exciting than the first one. Catching fire focused on the many elements which make the hungers games franchise, the beginning of the revolution which we observed when Katniss and Peeta were giving tributes to the different districts, the love triangle and the actual game which caused the revolution. This movie was good, dramatic, emotional and finished with a great ending, therefore it was my favourite hunger games movie.
